The reason the knights of Templar began was to absorb knowledge and hoard knowledge. They did blend and mix with other secret societies at times when it was necessary. Thing about the "underworld" - you never know what you're gonna dig up, so why scratch?

At one time it might have been a possibility, but Illuminati are more affiliated with Free Masons now.

no way. Templar were extreme Christians. Illuminati were proving Christianity wrong. the pope made up slander about them. ever heard of Lucifer(light bringer) being synonymous with the devil. Illuminati means those who illuminate(bring light). doesn't that sound suspicious?
