No, I don't think they have benefitted overall, or maybe I am just "too old" as I don't appreciate technology-driven "music" like techno, house, trance, etc. I prefer the old-fashioned way of making music which was playing an instrument and singing.

Also, I think that with modern editing technology, mediocre singers can be made to sound good! I won't name any but I think we can all think of a few.

Bring back Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, etc, anytime.

The only benefit of technology is that some new start-up bands might find their audiences quicker without having to play the politics of being nice to record labels, as they can broadcast their music on the Internet.

Yes: Yes, because they get access to a wider audience for cheaper promotion costs. But no becuase 90% of those people are just gonna download the music anyway so they wont make anything out of them. However, they still gonna be able to sell more tickets to concerts to their new 'net fans', so in the end they benefit, but only just.

Yes, I do think so because music can be programmed on the those synthesizers that create drum beats, etc. Back in the day, bands played their own instruments and solo artists had back up bands.

Oh well...

I think they have, because it is much easier for them to reach a bigger audience through technological venues like Myspace.
