I purchased: Baby Signs "How To Talk To Your Baby Before Your Baby Can Talk" by Linda Acredolo, Susan Goodwyn. I also bought Baby Signs for Bedtime, Mealtime, Animals, and My First Baby Signs. The above 4 are board books that run about $7 and are also authored by Linda Acredolo. The first baby sign book runs $15-$20.

I also saw on Noggin TV that Baby Einsteins are coming out with a DVD for baby signs that is shown with actress Marlee Maitlin.

There's a passage within the booklet "Baby Signs" approximately this; alas, I can not discover my replica to cite it precisely, however possibly your library may have one. What I bear in mind from it's that whether or not infants are utilising signal language or now not, at a specific age they are beautiful good stressed out as much as speak and the usage of signal language sort of fades out. So in line with the authors' study, studying to signal is not an obstacle to studying to speak. Different infants prefer up on signal language to specific levels, too. I had this grandiose thought that my son could grow to be so fluent in signal language that we might be competent to have whole conversations approximately how his day was once going by the point he was once one. Snort! He did study a few indicators, however the "conversations" have been as a rule his pointing up at matters like enthusiasts and lightbulbs and making the indicators for fan and lightweight. "Yes," I'd answer, "that's an excessively first-class fan." It did aid go the time ready in line at CostCo, although. Now that he is close to 2, the indicators are all however long past, changed through his common phrase for the whole lot: "NO."

Hi, I'm so happy to hear for you and your baby learning signs together!

I would NOT buy the book by goodwyn and acredolo. (too bad I already did 4 years ago)

They use made-up signs.

Try books/videos from Joseph Garcia - VERY GOOD.

As for DVD's the Einstein video is ready with Marlee Matlin. Very good also.

"Say it with a Sign" DVD

And "Signing Times" DVD have several sets.

You can find all of these for low-cost on eBay.

Just be sure that the DVD uses ASL based signs, and not made up signs.

Good luck!!! :-)
