you need a real acute sense of what the market value of items are and how to use your writing skills to sell that item and get attention to your listing. ebay forces you to compete with thousands of other sellers promoting the exact same item, so it helps to have great pictures of your stuff, and a tagline that is captivating enough to get someone's attention.
if you're selling collectibles you may actually turn a profit without too much effort, if you truly know what the item is worth. with ebay you sell at a bid that is redicously low, and keep your fingers crossed and hope that people will fight over it at the last minute to raise the price to a point where you will make a profit. you can set minimum bids for your item, but remember, if your item doesn't go for as much then you've lost the money that you put into listing the item in the first place. in the case that you aren't willing to take a total loss you can offer that item to the highest bidder.
ebay itself often takes a nice piece of your action as well, so you have to take into account their costs, your costs, and your shipping costs, before listing that item. you may find a great shirt at a store for $5 that is a great deal from the $100 MSRP it listed, and you can keep the tags on that shirt to show off to your customers that you truly paid as much for the item but if your costs are $10 over the $5 you paid for it, and the highest bid is only $12, they may think they're diong you a favor because it's over $7 your asking price, but you're actually $3 in the hole. Ebay lets you float costs for a while, but after a few months they'll freeze your account and force you to pay up. you may list that shirt again and only get $9 for the same item, and if you raise your minimum cost people who have already bid on that item and seen it wikll get skeptical.
if you're selling cheap stuff, like attire or something else you can buy for less than a hundred bucks, then it''ll help you to have a good releationship with a wholesaler so you can lower your costs and make more money - a good wholesaler can get you that same $5 shirt for like 25 cents. It's really hard to mess that up; but the downside to that may be buying a bunch of extra stuff you don't want to get the deal. far as websites, there are plenty of places that will sell you inventory control systems and auction management systems that can help you set prices that may work for you over time.

Make money off Ebay!!! EASY!
1. Look around your home and find anything you're not using.
2. Take pictures of it. ( Don't hide anything .. people get curious if they see you're trying to hide stuff in your pics)
3. SELL IT ON EBAY!!! ( Make some cool comments and make it look interesting)
4. Monitor the activity and see if anyone's bidding on it.
5. After the bidding ends get your cash up front.
6. Ship the item.

If you can buy a product in bulk at wholesale prices you can make a killing on ebay. I know a guy who sells knock off Ralph Lauren shirts imported from India, he is getting paid.
You could try finding some cheap items at thrift stores and garage sales. Automotive parts sell really well on e bay too.
