Hi! I'd be moving soon to Malaysia, near my place of work at Cyberjaya. Since I'll be a newbie, I need some infos especially about the costs of living there.

Let's say Im a single guy, works for a company based in Cyberjaya and would earn bewteen RM3000 - 5000. Would you think that' enough for me to live on? what if i add the following expenses, how much RM would you think I need to allocate?

- Electricity
- Rent for a flat or apartment
- Food! (3 meals a day/hawker food would do too :)
- Transport (from, Let's say if I get a flat in Puchong or Damansara)

That's it!

Shopping? I'd try out the local wet markets where I can get a bargain. Adventure seeking traveler here :P

Thanks!

cyberjaya resident speaking here...

which company you are going to work? DHL, EDS, HSBC, DELL, SHELL IT, FUJITSU, BMW?

Well that amount of money you earn will enable you to live a comfortable life with basic necessities. I suggest instead of living in Puchong or Damansara it's better for you to live in Cyberjaya itself. Here's my argument.

I'm sharing an apartment with my friends, 7 of us. Each pay RM 180 monthly excluding bills and blah blah. FOr you, you can rent the whole apartment (unfrnished) for about RM 900. 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms. Fully furnished apartment will cost about RM 1300-1400.

If u want a bigger space, there's a townhouses which give u extra square feet. It will cost slightly higher than apartment. Nice and cozy too.

If you dont want to rent thw whole unit, there're lots of people who are willing to partly shared a house/apartment/townhouse with you. At least you'll get company.

Easier option, there's some landlord who altered their unit to suit you needs. Whole master bedroom with bathroom attached, RM 500. That's sweet, because it's rate including bills. You dont have to worry about bills to pay though.

As for transportation, public buses in Cyberjaya is okay and above par with the whole country. You dont need to go extra mile to work. Journey cost RM 2. You can use the ticket to ride bus unlimited amount of journey within the same day and within Cyberjaya. If you feel lonely, there's lot more Filipino IT experts who live in my area (Cyberia).

Foods..hawker food. No problem. 3 meals per day. Each meal RM 6. rm 6 x 3=rm18. Fav lunchplace. Terminal. Where all local IT workers thronged during lunch and dinner. There's a plenty of restaurant too..

My suggestion, if you live in Damansara, it's just a complete waste of time and money. With RM 5000, you can live there but distance and time will take its toll sooner than you'll realize. Why Damansara or Puchong? It's shite too.

We pay for about RM 170 per month for electricity, 2 PC's are on 24/7, play station,TV's, cellphones, washing machine, water heater, and some bastards who didn't switch off fan before they go to class.

house in cyberjaya r expensive,so its better u rent a room,a middle room would do!Renting a room that r fully furnish will lessen ur headache, make sure the house got a stove and fridge.Houses in puchong is cheap, however wasting on cab is sure not worth ur money.

As a bachelor myself,i estimate u'll need to spend at least 800 ringgit for house rental, foods, misc. It really depends on how u spend

With that salary you can even pay installment for a car or apartment. Not problem at all with that salary living in puchong.
Average salary for normal people is about RM 2,000.
If you can really save, for normal expenses RM 2,000 is really good enough to stay in Puchong.
