For those of you that give massages, I would like to know why (or it least from what I have found out in recent years) other than maybe warmth, you are wrapped like a mummy and only uncovered as "needed" for the area worked on? I have had those in the past when all I had was a smaller towel covering my private area in the front. I am NOT talking about exotic or gay massages. Just a massage that I don't have to be wrapped like a mummy.

The reason for the more recent practice of draping with a sheet is because of all the "massage" places that give real massage a bad name. You know the "happy ending" kind. Sheet draping (the kind where you are wrapped like a mummy) is a more modest form of draping which makes most clients feel safer especially those who have not had a massage before and have heard of the other kinds of places. It is also safer for the therapist. Unfortunately there are clients who will walk into professional massage clinics looking for the wrong kind of massage and they will do anything to get what they want. It is sadly not uncommon for clients to remove the towel and expose themselves to the therapist. Using a sheet makes it easier to spot a problem before it happens. It also prevents the therapist from being accused of foul play. Such as positioning the towel so they can see more than they should and/or touching more than they should. With modest draping the therapist intent is clear and there is little room for confusion with the client.

You are wrap in towel depending on what kind of massage you are getting. If you opted for a full body massage, then you are covered totally and yes only the portion will be expose where one is doing the kneading of your muscles. It's necessary to make your body warm and relax, for more soothing and relaxing massage experience.

Very interesting question because I feel the same way. I have received massages where you are totally nude face down and a small cover face up, they are great. Covering is required in some places although the therapists have a lot of discretion on how much cover.
