Ive had problems with identity theft in the past, Is that a valid reason for having your Social changed?

If you get your social changed, it will be ahrder to identify yourself. I can offer some assistance in what you can do.

I had a neighbor steal credit cards & run up some balances in October 2003. When I called the local Social Security office, the lady with whom I spoke said SS would only change a person's number if that person could prove that his/her number had been used for ID theft. Because my theiving neighbor never had my SS# & didn't use it for ID theft, SS wouldn't change my number. However, if you've had problems you can prove to Social Security, you might be able to convince them to change yours. It's worth at least calling your local office to ask them about your case. You can find your local SS office listed in the Blue Pages, which is the listing of government numbers in the front section of the White Pages. Good luck!

Yes, it's possible that it's a valid reason to have your Social Security # changed. (See the link below to the Social Security Administration web site for info on ID theft.)
