- Because the Iranian government is idiotic and have no idea what they are getting themselves into.
- Maybe because the US embassy hostage incident in 1979 turned out to be a huge public boost for the fledgling Islamic revolution.
- Maybe because they are feeling intimidated by the growing international pressures on them because of their nuclear program.
- Maybe because they will use these sailors as some barganing chip in negotiations with Britian and the USA.
There are many possible reasons, but religion has nothing to do with it.
Why do you insist on bringing Islam into everything?
What about the Guantanamo detainees that are sometimes shown in TV? Sure, their identities are not revealed, but their treatment, detention and capture are not any better than these British sailors.
No one has the moral high ground here.
In any case, i hope these poor sailors are released. Everyone keeps forgetting that they have families and loved ones.
It is very easy to stray into Iranian territorial waters in that area, Iran is stupid in making a huge deal of this. They cannot possibly emerge victorious from a situation like this. Britain and the USA must stand firm and take a tough stand. There really can be very little negotiation with a regime like that in Tehran.

My guess is that Iran is not going to be stupid and hurt the British soldiers \ sailors. They got them to admit they did something wrong - the question will be did they do that by force or intimidation? If those sailors come home and tell everyone they were forced into it then Iran looks like the losers they are; but the bigger fear is that if Iran did that and knows they'll say.....what might they do to them instead of release them.....and what might Britain do in response.

Well I mean...we did it and continue to do it..with false confessions all of the time.
Besides we don't really know whether the sailors are telling the truth or NOT. We don't know s t other than what we read or hear here in the United States. And as far as our government is concerned, I don't believe anything they tell us anymore. They're just a bunch of self-serving, egotistical, pathetic, stammering, sputternig ,absurd, profound liars, occupying the lowest strata of the human race.

you culturally insensitive twit, stop talking about what you don't know. by your views, i think it's safe to say you've never lived in Iran. Well, my father and mother have, and they say that the majority of women there feel that many of the traditions are not meant to put women down in any way, but to respect them. you wear things that cover you so that men will focus their gaze not on your body but on you as an individual. oh thats right, Americans can't grasp that concept. They let the media tell them how to think.
oh, btw, if you think this war is about Islamis culture, you are sadly mistaken

Because they are underdeveloped cavemen in charge of a whole state. I am surprised they didn't circumcise her yet for exposing her face in public.

Hi,
This is their culture, they think that it is sin that women don't cover her hair and it is necessary for all women to cover their hair.
If your wife inter Iran , or any other women they force them to cover their hair.
