Car dealers are ALWAYS hiring sales staff for a couple of reasons.
1) salesmen work on commission and if they don't sell they don't get paid so the dealer doesn't care if he has 100 people working for him, he only pays them when they sell cars.
2) dealers often fire salespeople who aren't selling enough cars each month, I worked for a company that fired the person that sold the least amount of cars each month
3) Salespeople quit because they aren't making any money and think they will do better at another dealership
those are the main reasons dealerships are always replacing sales staff.
It's not as easy as you may think, and it is even harder now that people can find cars on the Internet. Most dealerships want experienced auto salespeople. they are hired before someone with no car sales experience. I worked in car sales for over 10 years and some weeks I made $1000's and other weeks I made nothing.
I wouldn't recommend quiting your job, to try it

Car dealerships are always hiring salespeople because it's a tough job. Turnover is high, the hours can be crazy, the competition is fierce, and pay is almost always pure commission (though some may have a paid training program.)
It's not an easy job. But you're certainly in a safer position than most to give it a try. On the other hand, being so comfortable will probably make you a lot less "hungry" and hungry's what it's all about.

yeah I've heard car sales is tough. My uncle was a successful car sales man for 20 years made his way through the ranks and enjoyed it. he left for the real estate business a few years back. I personally love sales. Have been told by many managers that I have a friendly and trust Worthy personality. I have been thinking about getting into car sales. the most important thing I think is sell something you truly believe in or love. Chevys, Hondas, etc. I always loved cars but don't think I want to work on them for a living. if you want to try it out do so while your living at home. or have money in the bank to get you through first month or two.

I've worked at two Ford dealerships. It's very competetive and not always easy. If you think that you can do good then I would say go for it but remember, the reason they are always hiring is because they are always having people fold under the presure or getting fired for not meeting sales goals

if you want to try it out go for it. but remember sales job you need alot of people skills and talkign skills. if you lack experience in both i would not recommend it. and why do they always hire for sales you ask? the reason is because the turn over rate is very hi, meaning people always quit sales positions because it is very stressfull. some times you only get paid upon commission, meaning no sell no money. honestly. but if there is a base pay and on top of that with commission it will be good if you can sell.

Most car sales positions are straight commission based. In other words, if you do not sell any cars, you do not make any money. Furthermore, in order to keep you on staff, they expect you to sell a certain amount of vehicles within a certain amount of time or else you get the pink slip.
