Yesterday, toolbar 888 showed up along with a haywire of activity. Now an icon to fix errors has showed up on our desktop. Does anyone know if this is a legitimate offer or part of a viruses trickery?

I would doubt very much if its legitimate.. and you really need to beware of the sites you go to and download from , make sure you have a good virus program running and up to date .. all you have to do is even visit a site and it can write script to your computer or install something before you even know whats happening ..
There is a program called spy bot .. I use it all the time and it is one of the better spy ware programs and its free.. see the link below .. install it and run it on your computer .. I am including links to free on line scans as well .. if you don't have a virus or spy ware program on ( a legitimate one ) then use those links to check your computer after the spy bot is done ....
