I think so, here are some reasons:

Reason 1. They low ball all their vendors, forcing them to sell items at the cost Wal-Mart wants to but things at, which force the manufacturer to have their goods made overseas, which cause job losses for American manufacturing, then they pay the people overseas very little.

Reason 2. They pay their employees very little. They try to limit most employees to less than 40 hours a week so they are not seen as "Full Time". They try to avoid paying benefits, and avoid labor unions.

Reason 3. They drive many smaller retailers out of business with their unfair ability to get low cost products and how they treat their employees.

Reason 4. Most people will buy their stuff there anyway because they perceive that they save money, but they don't on most items, just a few loss leaders to get people in the store. Wal-Mart is ingenious by creating the mentality that you can get whatever you need at great prices all in one place.

I have not been a Wal-Mart fan for a few years, this program on PBS really opened my eyes, check this out:

Don't listen to the Wal-Mart bashers. Wal-Mart donates more to charity than any other corporation in the world. The salary and benefits it provides to employees are excellent when compared to similar jobs at other companies. And Wal-Mart provides a huge benefit to poor people by its keeping prices low.

Wal-Mart bashers never seem to understand that forcing Wal-Mart to pay higher wages and give more benefits would drive up prices for its products. Since Wal-Mart's customers are mostly lower-income folks, it is the poor that would be hurt the most if this were to happen.

Make no mistake: Wal-Mart does more for the poor every day than any of its critics will do in a lifetime.

if by evil you mean chinese then yes wal-mart is evil its bringing this country down the idiots who think they are getting such a great deal there because of the cheap chinese products will soon learn that no matter how cheap they are when you don't have a job you don't have income and no income means you can't buy nothing, all wal-mart cares about is how they can make a cheap product and that answer is manufacture it in china that means no jobs here. Be American buy American

I don't know about evil but I lived in a small town 10 years ago and when Wal-Mart came to town, they did everything in their power to put all the Mom & Pop stores in town, out of business. I will NEVER shop in a Wal-Mart. I have not been in one in at least 10 years. Besides, they're just soooooo tacky!

Well...they are tearing down a huge mall that used to be up the street from where I live. They are going to build a Wal-Mart there, of course. The community (a smaller community type city, which is pretty nice...) fought against them for quite a long time to prevent them from coming in and causing a lot of bad traffic and such for the surrounding areas by opening this huge store there. But they finally won. I've heard that they try to push people out of their homes and such if they are living near the potential 'building site'. I can't stand places like that...

I absolutely believe that wal-mart is evil. There just there to make a buck. They don’t care about their employees, most of them only get minimum wage and I don’t believe that anyone can live on that anymore. I live next to a town that was supposed to get a wal-mart and the people of that town fought to keep it out and the town won. Wal-mart would just bring more trash to an area than any good. I boycott wal-mart I refuse to shop there. I rather give my money to a mom and pop store that is actually working hard to make a living.

Not evil, but bad news for small business. They squash small business like a roach. Small towns bear the brunt of the pain felt by Wal-Mart's domination of the retail market. They lose whatever commercial identity they once had after a Wal-Mart moves in because small businesses just can't compete.

Get real.

WalMart is only evil if you are the overpriced competition, who is waging a very successful campaign against them.

Do you want to pay twice the price for the same item at another store?

There are just too many stores for them all to make a profit and the ones who are going under are the ones who are bitter and waging battle against WalMart.

Who cares if WalMart underprices their merchandise? Do you? Really?

Maybe if WalMart drives a few of the other chains out of business prices will come down all over. Maybe if WalMart started selling houses and cars and health insurance we would all be able to afford to live within our means again and not have to pay 40,000 dollars for a car or a half million dollars for a normal 3 bedroom home in an average neighborhood.

The average low end car costs less than the first house your parents bought. How is that not evil?

Mortgages now come with 50 year loans. 50 years.

Every company has it's bad points, including WalMart, but at least it's bad points are in the consumer's favor for once.

And, if WalMart employees are unhappy with their jobs then do something else. People have only themselves to thank or to blame for their lives. But, they will try til they die to make you think otherwise.

And, other than donating millions to charity and sponsoring rehabs for their drug addicted employees, and health care and discounts, YES! They ARE out to make a buck and if you aren't then you are a drain on society and that means you are a drain on me.

WalMart stores look like big ugly warehouses and the stuff they sell is cheap junk. How it came to be America's favorite store/obsession beats the heck out of me. If I sound prejudiced it is only because there are about five WalMart stores in the town where I live all located within five miles of eachother. I am sure I would have a different opinion if I wasn't forced to look at these stores every day and the throngs of fat people flooding into them.
