Arizonian??? You're the one with an accent.
There is no "Arizonan" accent that I'm aware of and we certainly don't talk like Texans. That said, my Canadian family tells me that, after 20 years, I sound like an American. I think the media business refers to it as the midwest standard...it's the accent which news anchors are taught to speak with. Personally, I don't notice any accents in the western USA all the way until you get to Illinois/Chicago, barring those states which border Canada and have picked up that "aboot" thing, eh.

Actually every state has its own accent. I live in the midwest now..a transplant from California and am told literally every single day I have a strange accent! lol...even up in the northern states, my accent stands out from what I've been told. Some of the accents in the US are very subtle and if you are an adult and a transplant, odds are you will have one to the people you live around. As for kids, they will usually pick up the accent of the place they live. Arizonawize, it will be a very subtle accent if they are in class with Arizona natives.

Your sister is incorrect. Arizonans speak accent free. The only people in Arizona that have a Texas accent are transplants from Texas.

No. I liked the first answer! Basically, we sound like everyone on TV. No character to our language. Although the Mexican Americans do have a small accent.

Hmmmm since a lot of people from all over the world live in Phoenix you will find accents from all over the world, but generally you will find that people in Phoenix don't have a "typical" accent, we all pretty much talk like they do in the midwest...gee maybe because we come from there???

My brother in law is a native Arizonan and has somewhat of a southern, Texas-like accent, but not as strong. I think it's funny because they say we "set down" instead of "sat down."

HUH? They don't speak like texans, they just speak normally, unless you go out and find some cow pokes, which are damn near impossible to find nowadays
