In Romeo and Juliet, I was wondering if any of you all know some quotes involving oxymorons with act and scenes. Much thanks.

Oxymorons are two words with opposite meanings put together for effect. An example would be "parting is such SWEET SORROW." (Juliet, act 2, scene 2, line 185)

Romeo has a bunch of oxymorons referring to his love for Rosaline when he first enters the play (showing that he is two-sided)

From act 1, scene 1, lines 173-182:

Why then, O BRAWLING LOVE, O LOVING HATE,
O anything, from nothing first create,
O HEAVY LIGHTNESS! SERIOUS VANITY!
Mis-shapen chaos of well-seeming forms,
FEATHER OF LEAD, BRIGHT SMOKE, COLD FIRE, SICK HEALTH,
STILL-WAKING SLEEP, that is not what it is!
This love feel I, that feel no love in this.

Be sure you don't list paradoxes - more than two words that present a seemingly impossible situation (paradoxes are close, but not oxymorons). An example of a paradox is the Juliet asking the nurse: "How can you be out of breath when you have enough breath to tell me that you're out of breath?"

Yep. I have the perfect one for you.

Act 2 - Scene 4 - Juliet's nurse comes back from seeing Romeo. Juliet is standing there anxiously asking her what Romeo's answer was about marriage. The nurse says give me a minute to catch my breath and Juliet says one of the best lines in the play ...

How art thou out of breath, when thou hast breath
To say to me that thou art out of breath?
The excuse that thou dost make in this delay
Is longer than the tale thou dost excuse.
Is thy news good, or bad? answer to that;
Say either, and I'll stay the circumstance:
Let me be satisfied, is't good or bad?

It shows what a brat Juliet really was. Pax - C.
