Being talked about is often be negative social interaction, but it is interaction, and there is some chance you will find who your friends are and and leave the losers behind. Worse is being ignored or shunned, especially in a relatively small group; then you have to decide to leave the group who has exiled you, or stay and continue to take the abuse.
