Traffic jams arise because people are selfish and stupid and cannot negotiate around obstacles. Traffic jams are proof that most people are too dumb or too selfish to do anything on their own.

Too many people trying to get to the same place at the same time.
An accident will cause a traffic jam because other cars have to slow down and this backs up traffic.

That is the normal reason for traffic jams but I'm sure there are others.

Traffic jams will arise from construction, rush hour( a certain time when people leave work) and when rude drivers don't follow the rules of the road.
