i want a carpet cleaner for cleaning our carpets every few months. We have a dog and 2 cats and I really think we need one. I have heard that a lot of carpet cleaners lose cleaning power fast and that you need to research which one is a good brand. I know that $200 isn't that much to invest but we really don't want to spend a fortune on it. Does anybody know of or have a good brand or know which ones to not buy. Our place is pretty small (about 1,300 Sq. Ft. ) so i'm not too concerned about having to buy a fairly small model. Thanks...

I bought a Hoover SteamVac about 10 years ago. I've used it 2 or 3 times a year and loaned it to family members many times with great results. No power loss with the Hoover. It still works great. I won't buy anything else. It's about $250 these days. It's not a light weight machine, over 30 pounds. Cleans and helps fluff matted carpet.
A little white vinegar in the cleaner helps with pet odors.

Bissell makes the best carpet cleaners I know of, I certainly recommend this brand. Good Luck !

I've only used the shampooer that I bought with my Kirby. There was a time that I helped a friend shampoo his apartment and he had a Bissel that worked pretty decent.
