This feature is not [ yet ] present with Msn Windows Live Messenger. Software can be used along side but in accordance with Yahoo Terms of Service I can not provide this information.

I had no intention to provide such knowledge anyway.

it's always a curious one, since people who ask these kinds of question really have no idea what to do with it once they get it.

but anyhow, send them a file or get them to send one to you and during the transfer do the following:
start > run > cmd.exe > netstat

no a file transfer isn't needed, i just threw that whole part in for absolutely no reason...*rolls eyes*

it is the transfer of a file from one instant messenger user to another that initiates direct contact between the two computers concerned, until that point everything goes via the servers of the instant messenger provider - in this case microsoft.
