He deals with his arm being broken and heals slightly deformed, his ever curious sister Scout and coming to terms with his fathers job and place in society. They live in a town where blacks are considered lower, yet he is in no way raised that way, and although his father is the epitome of "Justice is Blind" it is thru the eyes of his father Jem realizes men are not equal, not in the eyes of the law. I love the part when the children go to the courthouse and sneak in the balcony where the blacks have to sit and when his father is leaving the room all the people in the balcony stand....a man grabs Jems arm, (who is in awe), and says "stand up boy, your father is walking by"...

hope you enjoyed the book it is a classic.

Okay first of all, Jem was the boy. Scout was the girl. Jem had to deal with the sick lady he had to read to, dealing with the attention he got from his father's case, taking care of Scout, watching his father shoot the rabid dog, everything pretaining to Boo, and even just going to church with their nanny. Sorry I can't remember names right now.

She learns people aren't always as they appear especially people like Boo; who saves her and Tom's family who are African American and not supposed to be forgiving to a person who couldn't save their son from a false conviction. She has learned that it isn't always right to listen to what te rest of the world thinks but to be like her Father and find her own way. She learns he cant shield her from the world and that the world isn't always a loving and forgiving place to those who are different.
If you haven't read the book. It is an American classic.
