If i use the tanning bed about every other day and when I get the color I like may be like twice a week, what are the odds that I might get cancer? And if I use moisturizing tanning lotions would I prevent the danger of getting skin cancer? Also, what kind of indoor, tanning bed lotion should I use that is the best? Thanks!

Kimberly, where did you get that information? Is that a fact that it's the same radiation used in X-ray scanning as in tanning beds? I find that hard to believe!

answerer, your story had my eyes wet a little. If I was a girl, I'd probably cry... Wow... First of all, I am really sorry about your sisters. I have 3 sisters myself, and just a little thought of loosing any of them hurts a lot. Second, I really admire how you in encourage others not to do a mistake your sister did. I admire the time you and how much of your heart you put into the answer for me. That really makes me feel like it is an answer I was looking for, and I'm thankful you came across and saw my question. I promise just like your sisters not to use tanning beds! Deal is done! Thank you bro! =)

My family had no previous history of any cancers, until tanning beds became popular. I lost all of my three sisters to Melanoma, the most severe and deadly form of skin cancer that is gotten from tanning beds. They tanned every other day like you say you do as well. I am sad to say that for all of them it was a very painfull death. For two of my sisters it was 2YEARS of excrutiating pain before they passed. One was in so much pain that they had to put her in a chemical induced coma, so she wouldn't have to suffer. she never woke up from the coma. DO NOT use tnning beds. its like collecting everything, and I mean absolutely ALL the rays that give you skin cancer, and then lying down with them all touching your skin. my father is a doctor who so often tried to convince my sisters not to tan, thankfully he was able to convince me. He is a dermatologist. he's participated in many studies (atleast 5 or more) where the data outcome states on average for ea. study that if you tan more than once a week you have a 92% chance of getting skin cancer, and three of those studies were with people that had specific melanin genes that prevent skin cancer and injury from high frequency (such as uvb and ultra-violet) light waves. one out of every 5 million people have this gene, and that is not counting people with 50% or more african or african-american or mexican heritage. So the average for any person with those genes using tanning beds is 92% and is higher for people without them (because 92% is an average) use tanning places with SPRAY or BUY LOTION. it is only the actual light waves that cause cancer. you can go as often as you want to any spray-on tanning place or use any lotion as many times an hour as you want.
even the average non-tanning bed user has atleast a 5% chance of fatal skin cancer, simply from the time they are outside. Even if you had skin cancer-preventing genes, and depending on how long you've been tanning for, you are now 60% more likely to get a fatal form of skin cancer than a non-tanning bed user. (I asked my dad to enter your situation into his computer system and that's how he got the percent. and he entered it in with the highest recorded EVER number of melanin, cancer-preventing cells. So in the luckiest situation humanly possible you are now 60% more likely to die because of tanning beds. *note: we entered that you have been using them every other day for a 9 months total (it doesn't matter if its in a row or not) you need to stop tanning beds immediately or you will just be another statistic of those who've died of skin cancer. don't end up like my 3 sisters. :'( you can only stop the epidemic one person at a time.
the 3 top most likely causes of death in a person in ur tanning sitaution (i don't know your height weight, and past medical family history, though) would be
a) melanoma (cancer)
b) heart disease
c) obesity
there is NO RISK OF CANCER IN SPRAY ON TANS AND TANNING LOTIONS THAT CAN BE BOIUGHT. it is only the light waves in tanning BEDS that are the cause. You are only hurting yourself.
tanning beds=shorter life
its that simple
and you'll regret it when your older and in pain. Look at it this way, would you literally die to use tanning beds? this is not a joking matter. My sisters made me promise before hey died that I wouldn't use tanning beds and I would do my best to inform others of the same. I have kept that promise and have never in my life used a tanning bed. When I want to be tan, I get a spray-on tan or but tanning lotions and i am 100% cancer free and plan to stay that way.
beleive me, you WILL regret giving up tens and tens of years of your life for one year or so of being tan. It's simply not worth it. ESPECIALLY, when you could be as tan as you want, whenever you want, and NOT lose ANY YEARS off of your life.
just think about it ...
thats all I'm asking

STOP NOW, i went to do surgery and i had to have x-rays twice and then the nurse made a mistake so I had to do it again and the nurse was nervous to do it cause youe only supposed to do that at the most twice a year well the same radiation that goes on your skin when doing x-rays is the same radiation that goes on when you go on a tanning bed

It is dangerous and bad for your skin but I do it too. The biggest issue is going everyday, you should only go ever other day and that is a law in many states. If you do not allow your body time to heal than you are at a higher risk by essentially burning already damaged skin cells. However indoor tanning does help people who usually burn not to burn outside if they are doing it correctly.

laying in a tanning bed is worse than the sun actually. The rays are much stronger, and is hard to protect. My aunt got cancer from one, but got it removed. Really what I am trying to say is yes tanning beds are bad for you and can give you cancer

it depends on which tanning bed you try...
no you dont prevent from getting skin cancer by using the tanning lotions..
its not recommended to use a tanning bed every other day, maybe every other week..
try tanning with spray, its not only uv free but you can see results faster

Go for a spray tan. It's completely safe. It might not be as cheap, but look at it this way.
Little bit more money for a spray tan, or risk of cancer.
Also, sunbeds age you.

Using sunbeds increases your chances of developing skin cancer by 80% compared to if you didn't use them at all. That means your risk is almost doubled. Also, if you have very fair skin, a lot of moles or skin cancer runs in the family, it is like playing with fire.
Take care : )

Odds are very high. You should stop tanning. Tanning lotions- do you mean self tanners? You should use them instead and wear SPF if you are out in the sun.

well..i hav friends who use tanning beds..and they are only 15..im really against tanning beds, and i always warn my friends but they usually just shrug me off...and ive also heard of supermodels whose entire lives depend on their looks actually AVOID the sun as much as possible to keep their healthy skin...but seriously..if God thought you should have THAT dark of a tan..he would hav made you black or the sun brighter..its EXTREMELY dangerous too..make sure you weigh the odds b/w health and "beauty" before you decide
