For my urban studies class were preparing for a “militarization of space debate”

SO MY TEAM HAS TO DEBATE THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT-
AND DISAGREE WITH SECURITY CHECKS AND BE AGAISNST THEM.

Security checks,
Increased security checks at airports-even when targeted at people of particular racial, national, ethnic or religious backgrounds-have nothing to do with racism. These procedures are necessary for national security.

What is your main message?
What are the key issues, values or principles at stake? How can you highlight them>
What counter arguments do you expect and how will you respond

So please give me some reasons why there should NOT – be any security checks,
And why you are against security checks at airports.

PLEASE HELP

I dont understand why you are required to put your things in a plastic bag. When I flew back to Dallas, I didnt check my luggage and the rude security lady went through my bag and made me put my lip gloss and mascra in my purse. Ok, so let's say if there was (which there wasnt) anything in there that would cause harm, why wouldnt they want that in my luggage instead of my purse?! My purse was on my lap the entire trip whereas my luggage was up in the bins. SO - if there was something dangerous in there, I had easy access. Being that involved in what is in passangers luggage is nice but it takes way too much time. They are wasting their time on lip gloss and mascra and letting other more dangerous things go through.

Ok, I understand this is a classroom activity, but how retarded is your teacher?

Invasion of privacy or "unfair targeting" of particular groups would be the ONLY reasons to be against the increased security check. Can you role play and pretend you are part of one of the groups that are scrutinized more closely to point out the racial profiling aspect?

That being said..I personally feel so much safer traveling now. I'm sorry if the checks target particular groups - but I don't find that necessarily unfair! The TSA can check me all they want - I have nothing to hide and am not opposed to the increased security.
Good luck with your debate -

Invasion of privacy.

How would you like to be cavity searched like a criminal if you were innocent?
