The ways pine cones work is that the seeds are under the flaps and the flps only open up when they are exposed to heat or in some cases wildfires because the fire heats the cone up and the seeds relaese. Hop this answered you question.

brown pine cones have little seeds in each petal of the cone--that is what you plant and you must keep moist or once it grows it will die in a second--it will also need east light and I had the best luck putting a pot in a big clear baggie watering the seeds and leaving a little corner of the bag open--once the seeds start to grow you can open up more but then you will have to watch the water.

i think a pine cone has spores, which are very small sometimes if you get the cones at the right time you can find them. the spores look a bit like eyes. small papery things i think.

i guess if you managed to germinate one that it would grow into a tree. after all if you plant an acorn you get an oak.

not entirely sure about this, will be interesting to see the other answers.
