Do American Idol contestants get paid will they are in the finals, commercials or for any thing they are doing

By contract, the contestants are not allowed to do anything (commercials, tv shows, cds) without the producers consent for 5 years after the show is over. They sign this when they are accepted to Hollywood.

Australian Idols got $500 per week. Not sure about Americans.

I'm not sure but they get paid a lot for getting an album!
