Please ignore Scotishbob's answer -- it is totally incorrect. The answer is "A."

Since the Stamp Act only pertained to official documents and publications, the prospect of a farmer in the Carolina backcountry coming across it is virtually nil. It pertained to the urban classes, and in particular the intelligensia such as lawyers, printers and pamphleteers -- in other words -- the Stamp Act riled the most educated and noisy elements of society -- the very people you DON'T want to tick off. From a policy point of view, this law was the height of political ineptitude.

While the obvious answer would be A but it is incorrect.

The answer was D............and it culminated in the Battle of Alamance Court house in Guildford County, North Carolina.

The primary reason was the tax had to be paid in CASH--the farmers in the backcountry of North Carolina and other colonies did not have cash to pay taxes. They were used to using the bartering system.
