Amen. I don't think criminals should walk around saying, "Well, guess what? I haven't killed anyone in 60 days!"

If you are a clean addict or sober alcoholic, SHUT UP and be a father or mother to your kids. Be a friend, be a co worker, but SHUT UP about how great you are that you're not slammin horse.

Kicking any habit is really hard. Withdrawal will drive you insane. You have to learn to face reality without a familiar crutch. Plus, they have to face people like you who sit and judge them for getting addicted in the first place. There is a movie called "What the bleep do we know" that has some very good insights on the biochemical processes that lead to addiction.

True, they never should have started in the first place, but many rely on them to escape from reality or deaden pain, loneliness, etc.

Not everyone has a good support system, or even have someone to lean on to help them with their problems. Often people are to embarrassed, etc.

Some drugs, like Marijuana or alcohol are forced onto people by their peers.

What are you doing to help keep your friends off drugs and alcohol?

I'm a lifelong clean Man. (50+Years). But I can see their point in that it's such a huge undertaking for them to whip the addiction. I'd give the person some love & Kindness for the fist time. If they continue to fall off the wagon, only to try to get back on it? Maybe it is for show. But as long as they stay clean? I'd give `em all of the respect that you can. I have a younger Brother that is two Years clean. And he's a much better person for it. And we're even closer because of it.

You're right, but those addictions are so difficult to break. The reson most people do drugs is from depression and that drug gives them happiness but when they quit, that momentary happiness is gone. They need something else to show their worth, which is their "strength" to quit.

Only someone who has never suffered with addictive disorders, or loved someone who has a substance abuse or addictive personality would ask this question in such a condescending manner.
I agree that it's too bad that they ever took that first drink, or puff, or pill, but once your on that road you can't imagine how hard it is to stop.
I don't think any addict needs your personal seal of approval so don't lose any sleep over it , but please don't judge what you don't understand.
