Well first off you have to make sure he is worth it. If he is than simply hand a note to a friend asking him and have your friend give it to him trust me on this one it usually works besides he probley thinks musical cats are cool he wont want to turn you down.

Just remind him that you need someone to go with you. Don't act all shy or nervous or anything, or he'll start to think you like him. Do you? And I thought Cats was no longer on Broadway...unless you're seeing some high school production

Maybe tell him about all the ladies in lycra that will be dancing around in front of him for 2 hours...

And explain that although Lloyd-webber wrote it, he wont have to face him :-)

Or just tell him that *everyone* seems to know what cats is about, you don't, and does he fancy keeping you company whilst you find out if it's rubbish or not.

"Hey, I've got an extra ticket to see Cats, and thought you'd like to tag along. I heard it was really good, and a bit strange. Wanna come?"

Say that. =]

Just be real. Tell him you have tickets and would love his company. If he acts funny, tell him if he goes with you, you will go to something he really enjoys in the future (even if you don't like it).

1)The best advice I can give is just to act naturally. If he already think you like him, then I would be very non-chalant, calm, and just basically chillllll. Bring it up like it is nothing special as well.

just bring it up casually in a conversation like it's no big deal if he says no who cares he's still your friend. =]
