The fear of snakes is common but you were NOT born with it, it was acquired from someone close to you. Chances are that some time in your early childhood you may have been in a place where snakes were common and your parents or grand parents kept warning you about them (you may not even remember it, if you were under 3 years old).
Where you live NOW is the question... snake country or in the city? Warm climates tend to have more snakes than colder climates (Maine and Alaska are snake free, as far as I know).
I live in Texas, where snakes are common, but usually DON'T find them unless I am looking for them.
Research is the key... learn what is in your particular area and what they look like. The more you learn about them, where they "hide" and what they can ACTUALLY do will help you be able to go out into the yard without fear.

Alot of people are afraid of them, don't sweat it too much. I can't stand bats. Most people are afraid of them because of the bible portraying the serpent as the devil, just in our programming. Some don't understand or will not even make an effort to understand them, just spend all their lives thinking they are slimey. I am sure you heard that one. If you want to get over your fear, if you know someone with a snake see if you can touch him at first to show that there is nothing to fear from them. You have to go slow with them, that is a gimmee even if you are an experienced handlers. When you feel comfortable with it see if you can hold him to help get over it. it is a long process. if the snake doesn't trust you it will never work. I hope you can get over your fear, snakes really are alot of fun to watch and play with. One more thing, do not try anything I mentioned with a wild one. Walk away from them, they will go the other way. You should use one already tamed for his and your own safety. If you don't get over it, please do not be one of those people who instinctly kills them with a branch or garden hoe please. Read up on them also. Knowledge is the key to everything.

just think of it this way their not going to come up and bight you unless your harrasing it they know you are not a food so enjoy the fact their thereif you have a lot of snakesyou have lots of mice too and their keeping them under control ,if they wer'nt there you would be asking us how to get rid of mice or rats which will invade your home. Go to a pet store and let them show you a snake up close of course make sure they use one of the species that is less aggresive likea corn snake

My partner was always scared of snakes, but when I bought a hatchling snake, he slowly learnt that snakes arent as bad as people make them out to be
If you can, try touch or hold a hatchling snake, then slowly move your way to larger snakes and your fear will be gone in no time!

Try researching snakes. The more you learn about them, the less scary they will seem
