I believe the people of France still feel resentful of the Allied forces in general. I have been led to believe the reason for this is because France did not feel they received the aid after the war they expected. They feel the Germans were helped to rebuild far more than France by the Allies of which they were a part even though they pretty much handed France to the Nazis without much of a fight until late in the war when the french resistance became active.

Vichy France, or the Vichy regime, was the French government from July 1940 to July 1944, which succeeded the Third Republic. It was proclaimed by Marshall Pétain following the military defeat of France and the vote by the National Assembly, on July 10, 1940, of extraordinary powers to Pétain.

The "French state" (L'État Français), as it called itself in contrast with the "French Republic", willfully collaborated with Nazi Germany, to a high degree: raids to capture Jews and other "undesirables" were organized by the French police not only in the northern zone, occupied by the German Wermacht, but also in the southern, "free zone," which was occupied only after the Allies' landing in French North Africa in November 1942. Vichy's authority legally extended itself to both zones. Following the liberation of France after Operation Overlord, Charles de Gaulle, who claimed to incarnate the legitimacy and the continuity of the French state while Pétain collaborated with the Germans, proclaimed the Provisional Government of the French Republic (GPRF), which was recognized by the Allies.

because the French think that they are the only ones in this world who are cultured. They look down on Americans especially because we are a new nation (compared to France) who are successful, kind people but, according to the French, are not intelligent or refined. I fought in WW2 and I will tell you this , if I knew then what I learned about the French now, I would not have served a day in the army. The French have given a new dimension to the word "arrogance".

The Froggy ( Brit name for a Frenchman ) state have always been the traditional enemy of the brits. we had one war with them that lasted on/off for 100yrs. They hate the fact that the English language is dominant in the world and consider Americans brash upstarts. They still act like they did when they were a colonial power and still think of themselves as though they were ( some might say a bit like the Brits ) They live in the past ( the state ) and dream of bygone days of glory.

The French have always hated England, the two countries are always bickering about something, but I didn't know they didn't like the Americans.

France are in a sense ungrateful for our help, or they are upset because they had to rely on England and America to get them out of a fix.

I can't say why they hate Americans, but here are four reasons why they hate the English:-
1. We stopped their dream of European domination at Waterloo
2. We pulled their chestnuts out of the fire 1914-18, and they don't like to think that they are indepted to us
3. We pulled their chestnuts out of the fire 1939-45, and they don't like to think that they are indepted to us
4. English is the preferred language of the EU

Countries don't hate, people hate. People usually don't hate the people of other countries, they usually hate other countries' governments and policies.
