Well, to give you an idea let me paint a picture. When I worked at a summer camp as a counselor near an Amish town, I visited a house with one of my co-workers who was gay and white. I'm black. I accompanied my co-worker wearing what I usually wore around camp, a very revealing bright red bating suit. We were invited to sit in the kitchen of the Amish families household after being introduced. It all went well, until we were leaving and my co-worker went in for a hug from the young woman who we were visiting. She shrank away from her with a look of repulsion on her face as she cringed looking into my co-workers face. I simply smiled at the door and thanked them for allowing us inside their very interesting household. So, I'd say that particular group that I encountered were very tolerant, just not tolerant of being hugged.

The amish are very tolerent people, just as long as it does not interfere with their agrarian lifestyle.

What do you mean "tolerant"?

If it's synonymous w/ "inclusive", then NOT VERY MUCH
If it's synonymous w/ "compromise", then NOT VERY MUCH

If it's commitment to their own convictions regardless of the ways of the rest of the world AND their resolve to provide for the fulfillment of such then VERY MUCH SO. They do it on their own.

Somehow I don't think the word "tolerant" is NOT the operative term in describing them,...

"Committed" would be more like it.
