I play basketball at my school. Next year, most of the players are graduating so there are few players left. I get a long with one of my teammates and he says that I should play as a Point Guard. The problem is that I can dribble and all of that but I am just 13 and I am playing with guys who are 16+ (I am from another system of school) and they might steal the ball. How can I?:

Improve dribbling with both hands and crossover with less difficulty?

Improve both of my hands speed when I crossover and dribble?

How can I improve both of my leg speed when I dribble and crossover and how can I improve its movement when I crossover so it does not hit my leg?

Is it necessary to build up muscles so it can be done easier?

Thanks 4 ur help, please give suggestions or exercises that might help, no matter how difficult it is, i'll do anything

well first off I would say that if you are 13 playing with 16 year olds you must have some skills already. so thats good, you are starting off with a good foundation.

the key to all the skills you want to improve is practice. for instance if you want to learn to dribble with your offhand, force yourself to only use your offhand when practicing. dribble, shoot, etc with just the offhand.

watch some of the better point guards in the nba and try to get a sense of their moves. look at how they are creating space on their shot, or how they are controlling their body to fake people out. then try to imitate those moves when practicing.

finally and i think this may be most important for you since you seem to have a pretty good foundation. remember that alot of playing any sport is mental. believeing you are capable goes a long way towards actually being successful. for instance kobe bryant truly belives he can make any shot over any defender at any time in the game. obviously he possesses great fundamentals and athletic ability but are his skills in those areas so much better than any other nba star? probably not, what separates him is the mental aspect, including his confidence. practice practice practice and that will help you develop yours.

There is only a mental advantage in them being 16 years old. You would be close enough physically to match them.

Watch Rocky , when Rocky has to switch to being a right handed boxer. Also he trains knowing he's physically not as skilled as his opponent.

First, learn to dribble equally, tie the other hand and practice just dribbling that arm.

Second, practice with weights on your ankles. It will make you speedy at game time.

Third, meditate and visualize playing an entire game with boys much bigger than you. See the advantage to being small and fast.

Fourth, be cocky inside and don't let them ever know you're intimidated.

It works for my kid and he's no great player, but he's got heart.

Good luck...

There are specific drills you can do although I don't actually know them, but look into a basketball camp or search the net for some specific drills you can work on to improve ball control. One of the best things you can do is simply WATCH basketball games on tv. Watch the college games especially but the pros as well. One of the best ways to learn "moves" is simply to watch so that you can see all of the possibilities and mimick them. Some you can do, others you can't. That's one suggestion for golfers, for example, to just watch the pros. And just keep playing, street ball. The more you have a basketball in your hands, the better control you have over it, and that is especially important if you're going to be a PG.

Practice dribbling for an hour every day.

Do it SLOWLY at first, the way you want. Keep practicing and practicing and eventually you'll get faster without even trying.

It's when you get overeager and try to go fast that you make mistakes.

go to a local gym or teamworks facility and get a personal trainer... they will be able to answer all those questions and help you get better. It may cost money but if you really want to play then it will be worth it.
