If one has a timeship and goes backwards, would one be stuck taking the path previously taken forwards, because the ship cannot occupy the same space as it's past space? Also if one were to travel forward, would movement be restricted in space?

I guess that I'm wondering if you can move through time independent of space.

I've heard that it is only possible move forward in time, not backwards. Increasing speed will free that object from the effects of time, slowing it's time down and giving the appearance of everything else speeding up. Naturally, just like driving a car, that object would still have to move through space, it cannot just appear somewhere.
