I have a better question: how many times is this question going to be asked? :-P

The thing I love about the NHL is that it is one sport where you really don't know. You can make all your predictions based on all the facts you want, but in the end you just don't know who is going to win. Most people here will make an argument based on whoever their favorite team is. Some will use some interesting facts based on statistics that will fly right out the window when the puck drops in the first round. So in addition to being a very common question that comes up here just about every other day, it is kind of a dumb question. A better question might be, "Who do you THINK is going to win the Stanley Cup?" Even if someone guesses right, it won't be because they knew it.

I believe the San Jose Sharks have what it takes to go all the way and win the Stanley Cup this year. They have a solid team with one of the best powerplays and one of the best 1-2 punch players in Marleau and Thornton. Cheech has finally regained his scoring touch and Michalek has been one of the better players in the league this past month. They have 2 starting goaltenders in Nabby and Vesa. They have depth, youth and size. They upgraded their defense by adding experience and leadership with Craig Rivet. They also added another awesome winger in Bill Guerin to add to their arsenal of attacks! They are on a strong winning streak right now with Nabokov just scorching hot, and they will put it all together to try and win the Stanley Cup.

I would say the wild. 9 wins in a row just broken, 10 games with points still active. Hot teams at the end of the season is usually the team that wins the cup. They are also one of the best teams at home, and since the all-star break are one of the best teams on the road. To win the cup, you have to win at home, especially, but you must be able to steal a game on the road. That is why I say the Minnesota Wild.

ottawa. I think the west is so strong that they are going to beat each other up so bad. This might be the best from 1 -8 that a conference has ever produced. You could literally pick any of the eight teams and make a solid case that they will emerge out of the conference. Just gonna be a blast watching the west. But that also means that the eventual winner coming out might not have as much left. They will be going to war for three weeks. So I have to pick who I think is the best in the east. I think ottawa or buffalo, but I think its ottawas year to get through a inferior conference and probably be healthier and fresher to beat the west participant

Minnesota Wild
Why? because they rock.
they have Marian Gaborik, Brian Rolston, Manny Fernandez, Niklas Backstrom, Pavol Demitra, Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Brent Burns, Mikko Koivu, and Wes Walz.
Those are just some of the big guys who help the team.

Another reason....
their coach Jacques Lemaire..
he's a great coach.

GO WILD!

I like the Buffalo Sabres chances. They are getting healthy just in the nick of time, and were able to weather the injuries they sustained with many Rochester Amerks in their lineup! But who can say for sure.

probably the wild, detroit, ducks, pens or sabres. wild, detroit & ducks have been dominating their opponents recently and if it carries over to the playoffs they will be a force. the sabres have such a good offense that you need to play amazing d to even stand a chance. penguins have sid the kid.
