Most GOOD tattoo artists won't work on a woman who is pregnant or breastfeeding. If they are willing to tattoo you knowing you are pregnant, its probably not the kind of place you want to get any work done. There is always the risk of getting an infection, regardless of how clean the place is. A new tattoo is basically an open wound, and subject to infection just like any other injury. You would be putting your baby at an unnecessary risk if you got a tattoo now.

Also, with your body about to undergo so many changes, right now is not the best time to get a tattoo. Your body will stretch and swell and things will move around. I've heard that it is recommended to wait until the baby is a year old before getting a new tattoo, so you can make sure that the affected body part won't be changing or moving any due to your gaining and losing weight so rapidly.

The biggest issue I can see with getting a tattoo while you are pregnant is that your body is already focusing all it's energy into building the new life. A tattoo might not be much of an injury but it will take longer to heal and could give problems due to the fact that so much else is going on in your body at the same time. You could also be exposing your body to other problems like blood poisining!! wait until after the baby is born!

No because the ink is mixing with your blood. Also, though I'm sure you'd be going to a reputable shop where everything is properly sterilized, it is not worth the risk to the baby. I love tattoos and have 2 of them, but I think a better idea is to wait until after the baby is born and done breastfeeding. Then you can treat yourself to the tattoo as a gift for being such a great mommy!

To clear it up the ink does not get into the bloodstream. It does not affect the fetus in that way. I have asked and also researched it. The ink barely goes through that many layers therefore doesnt come in contact with bloodstream. Some will contest this but there really any research to back up the claim

The risks is because of stretching skin that can affect the tattoo, the color of the tattoo may not stay in your skin because of all the changes chemically in your system (in other words you body can reject the ink) you may pass out because of the time it takes and the pain factor which can also bring on stress, and also because of chances of HEP B contact. Healing time would be much longer. Tattoo artists will not tattoo you anyway if you are pregnant

Do you want to risk an infection or anything like that? No matter how far along you are you should never get a tattoo while pregnant. No matter how clean and safe it might be, you shouldn't get it done. How bad do you want it that it can't wait? That's my 2 cents!

I would not highly recommend it, because it takes so long to heal after. DH has a few of them.
I would suggest waiting until after the baby is born so you don't spread any of that to the baby. Not to mention the smell may bother you.
The first trimester is the most viable for the baby, it is when all the organs begin to develop so think really if you need this now or if it can wait.

Why did you wait until you were pregnant to decide that you wanted a tattoo?! In nine months you will have the baby and if you still want you can get one then. Nine months is a very short period in your life, why risk it?!

Just wait until after you have the baby. You wouldn't want to lose the baby or something because of a tattoo.

a tattoo is a fairly traumatic experiance to undergo while carrying a fetus. it's cool to have afterwards, but it hurts like heck to get.
the stress your body undergoes while getting the tattoo could harm your fetus and some studies suggest that your stress can bring forth unwanted problems with the baby.

I would not take the risk of harming my baby in order to get a tattoo. It is better to wait until you have the baby. When I am done having kids I am going to have small tats on my upper back with their names on them and their birthdates.
