Alot of that is for comfort. The ocean is very cold even in the warmer climates. They'd surely freeze. Also the blubber is for rough times when sustenance is hard to come by. For the sperm whale is protects them when they dive 2 miles or more because they have to allow for pressure at those depths. Their ribs are also able to shift almost collapse when acclimating to the pressures. The blubber is very important for them because they live out their lives in the open ocean. It is not necessary for us to have any blubber and swimming is the best low impact exercise you can do to keep yourself in great shape. Besides swimming is fun!

Such a goofy question! Whales don't swim just SOME of the time like people. They LIVE in the darned ocean all the time and swim underwater to great depths. Humans can't do that so of course the whales are bigger than we are.
