I didn't march or burn my bra, but I do believe females should have the same rights and pay as males.

Read Marx, take out "the proletariat' and replace it with "womyn" and you've got feminist social theory. What makes a feminist is the belief that we are all equal regardless of the status of our plumbing (indoor or outdoor). Feminists say chest, not t!ts. And as a 48 year old male raised by some very fine women and married for 20 years to a vital, exciting woman I say yes I am a feminist,. Equal but different. May we never seek similarity to the point of the loss of mystery.

They're basically fighting for the inequalities between men & women and how its led to the subordination of women.
Wikipedia says:
A large portion of feminists are especially concerned with what they perceive to be the social, political and economic inequality between the sexes which favours men at women's expense; some have argued that gendered and sexed identities, such as "man" and "woman", are socially constructed. Under continuing pressure to conform to masculine norms, feminists disagree over the sources of inequality.

Personally, I don't follow the extremity of some of feminist views, because its clear men and women do have defined roles in society, however old fashioned and unfair they may be. I can definetly see where they are coming from however, and I have a lot of respect for well known feminists like Simone de Beauvoir (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simone_de_Beauvoir) and Germaine Greer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germaine_Greer). What's interesting is that a fair few men have been involved in the fight for women's rights - see the wikipedia article.

BTW - i'm not a lesbian! (lots of people automatically draw parallels between feminism and lesbianism).

A feminist has views that are politically, socially, and religiously, different than that of the regular woman. Read the book Another Thought by OC Tross. It will answer this question.

I dont consider my self a feminist but as woman I think certain issues shouldnt be up for debate with society or goverment like reproductive health from conception to abortion to birth should remain womans private medical decision between her and her doctor.

A feminist is a woman who neither understands nor appreciates the beauty and distinction of womanhood. They have an unmerited hatred of men and a philosophy which cries out against a "patriarchal society" but never offers a logical, viable alternative. They make life difficult for the women they claim to protect.

It doesn't seem like feminism is at all about equality but more about the hatred of men, I see a lot of imbalance in feminism, a lot of excluding of men. It is just the opposite of male chauvinism. I am glad that there is more equality in the world for women than there once was but there are still some good men (although few) and some women who like to take care of them rather than have a career or whatever. These women have just as much value as women with careers and are equal with their husbands. True equality can never exist in any form because there are many people with many different views.
