I want conductors and insulators that you can find around the house (everyday items) and/or things that you can buy that is not cheap (stuff that doesn't break or ruin easily) and between $0 and $30.

You would want to use a Black Teflon pan and a large magnifying glass whose focal length is about 4 feet and a diameter of 12 inches. Position the black teflon pan at 90 to the sun's rays and then take the magnifying glass and mount that at the exact distance of the focal length.

I dont think you can buy this stuff for $30. The last time i purchsed a magnifying glass of this size was in 1977 and i beleive it costs then about $50 or more. So today, Its going to cost much more. Good luck in your cooking!!!!!.

I like to play around with alternative energy so I've devised a couple of solar cookers. One was made of cardboard with heavy duty aluminum foil and a oven roasting bag for the window.

Another one I made on the spur of the moment out of one of those shiny foil type car window sun blocks. They were just a few dollars and I'd bought them to reflect the light away from my car's front window in the summer. They were so shiny, I decided to give it a try and did heat water for tea using one as a cone shaped solar oven. You might be able to rig it up as a hot dog cooker.

I saw an episode of Mr. Wizard about 20 years ago where he took a shoe box and covered the inside with tin foil. He put the hot dog on a wire hanger and inserted the hanger through the box. It took about 8 hours for the dog to cook. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I don't think that you need to worry about conductors and insulators. You just need reflectors to capture the sun's rays. If you want cheap then just paste aluminum foil onto cardboard panels.
