The deepest part of the ocean is the Mariana trench which is near Guam in the west-Pacific (it is actually closer to the Philippines or Indonesia than Japan). The trench goes to a maximum depth of about 10,900 meters (about 35,000 feet) below sea level. Humans actually have been down there, although they were obviously inside a vessel that was able to withstand the incredible pressure of the deep ocean.

On average the ocean is about 2 miles deep.

This sounds like one of 'those' questions with no answer. How high is up? and how deep is down?
