Hi I am 23 weeks pregnant and everyone is telling me I should have heartburn by now...because of the baby hair growing...not that it really matters but I was wondering when the heartburn should start...so I can have an idea if my baby will be a bald baby or have some hair lol

Lucky you.

I had HORRIBLE heartburn for about 15 weeks. And my baby had a very very thick head of black hair. I don't know if it's true or not... My mother didn't understand why I had heartburn. She didn't have it and she tought I was full of BS. But then again, she didn't have it, and I was born quite bald.

Now, personally I think your cravings might have something to do with it. I craved tomatoes, LOTS of them. In sauce, pizza, raw, every way you could imagine. Maybe that's what caused the heartburn, maybe that's also what put the hair on his head? I don't know, but it's fun to wonder. Let us know if your babe's a baldie!!

First of all the is a wives tale and in no way can it judge how much hair your baby has. Second not everyone gets heartburn. My cousin is 30 weeks pregnant and she has never had any heartburn or morning sickness. I'm 32 weeks pregnant and I have Terrible heartburn and Terrible morning sickness still. You really should feel lucky because heartburn is nothing nice at all. I take medication for both and both are still present. You may not get it until your 3rd trimester or you may not get it at all which I would consider very lucky. Heartburn is horrible so if I were you I wouldn't worry about it. Congrats on your pregnacy, good luck, and God bless.

I have never heard anything about the mother's heartburn related to the baby's hair - that's sounds ridiculous. The reason you get heartburn during pregnancy (and it gets worse the father along you get) is that the baby is pushing up against your stomach causing a harder time with digestion. If you are carrying your baby low or are eating smaller but more frequent meals or are not eating too soon before bedtime, then those could be just a few reasons why you don't have heartburn. Be thankful you don't have it because it really doesn't feel good. I am 27 weeks and rarely experience it myself but it is getting more frequent as time goes on. You'll probably get heartburn eventually but enjoy your heartburn-free time now while you can!

I didn't have heartburn when I was expecting either of my children (any more than I normally do, which is once every few months). If you're not lying down flat when you sleep that could be one reason you don't have heartburn. Heartburn is caused by the temporary relaxing of muscles that let the acid back up out of your stomach. Maybe you just haven't had that degree of "muscle relaxing". Maybe it will come later. Maybe it will be like it was for me and never be much of a factor.

(One of my babies had a thick head of hair. The other was a blond, barely-any-hair, little sweety.)

The increase in estrogen is what makes the muscles relax.

Someone has been "feeding you a line" / "pulling your leg" / trying to "put one over on you".
Heartburn in later pregnancy comes from the largeness of the baby taking up so much of your abdominal space. There is so much less room for your own organs and stomach, that at times, especially when you lie down, the stomach acid backs-up into your esophagus. That's what heartburn is, and that's why pregnant women get it. If you are not getting heartburn, count your blessings!

That's just an old wive's tale. I have 2 children, both born with TONS of hair and I never got heartburn. I'm on number three now, still no heartburn, but I'm sure he'll have lots of hair too! Consider yourself lucky, I've heard heartburn sucks! :) Good luck!

I'm 37 weeks and have only had heart burn maybe a half dozen times in the whole pregnancy. I think part of it is whether you ever had heartburn before, or if you eat too much at once or certain foods. I've only had it bad like one time...the other times were vague heartburn type feelings.

Dont worry about it. . . you're just lucky. :-).

Not everyone will get heartburn but I had it at 25 weeks and it lasted until the end of my pregnancy. I lived off of pepcid AC, I tried not to take it but it was immediately there if I didn't. Also you get heartburn because your stomach is forced upward towards your chest so it is higher then usual because of the baby getting bigger not because the baby has hair!!

ok heartburn and the baby having hair are COMPLETE CRAP!
I didnt have heartburn all with my son, and he was born with a full head of hair.
I am pretty sure that its the baby pushing on the organs, and causing the stomache acid to come up... i think? I could be completly wrong though!

I wouldnt complain about it. I have had horrible heartburn since i was about 19 weeks with this one.. its shocking!
