I have polycistic ovarian syndrom and I hadn't gotten my period for about 5 months. I was spotting a little so I began my birth control on the sunday after thinking it was my period. I have had my period for like 2 weeks now and Im not sure what is going on. Even when I used to get it regularily it only lasted about 3-4 days. Now suddenly im getting it for 2 weeks. It is because I haven't had it for 5 months? Also, is it messing up my birth control?? I'm almost at the sugar pills and I'm still on my period. Should I just skip the sugar pills then seeing as I already got it??

It's possible that, because you haven't menstruated in such a long time, you're just having an extra heavy and long cycle. Are you just beginning to take the birth control pill since your diagnosis of PCOS. If this is your first month on the pill, then you could continue through one more package and see if your periods begin to regulate.Often it takes 2-3 months on a new pill for your body to fully respond to the hormones. It's quite possible that your health care provider will need to change the type of birth control pill to help get the cycles regulated. There are many oral contraceptives available, so if this one isn't a good fit for you, I'm sure you'll find one that is. I know, this time of waiting and dealing with the crazy bleeding is frustrating, but it will get better. PCOS is manageable. Take care.
