I don't live in Canada so I'm not familiar with how it would be done but you could start by looking for a small business administration/organization in the government for resources.

Canadian Federation of Independent Business

Lo and behold, Yahoo Canada has a directory that might help:

You just need to find out what you need to start the business (i.e. can you do something like a sole proprietorship which in the US requires nothing more than a business license if the local county/city requires it).

Talk to people that are already in that type of business. Calgary is a boom town for the present and very expensive to live. It could very easily go into a bust situation when the bottom falls out. Did you ever hear of the saying what goes up must come down. Well the same rule applies to Calgary and I would not go there unless you had a place to stay because they are hard to find, you have alot of homeless people out there right now with no place to live.

It would all depend upon whether you are a citizen or perminant resident or have some other status in Canada.
If you are a citizen of another country and have no current status in Canada you will first have to visit ;

If you currently have status in Canada, or eventually gain status in Canada, then you would contact;

Good luck to you!
