Tarantulas are a group of spiders considered to be "Primitive" spiders, quite different from the "True" spiders that most people find in and around their homes. Tarantulas belong to the large family of spiders called "Mygalamorph" spiders, which differ from true spiders in many ways, but the most notable ways they are different is that their fangs move up and down, rather than a side-to-side pincher-like movement, and they have two retractable claws(like a cat's)at the end of each foot. Tarantulas' eyes, all eight of them, are arranged in a tiny cluster near the front of their cephathorax(the front part of a spider's body). All tarantulas have hairy bodies and legs to some degree, but not all adult tarantulas are large. Some species are no larger than a typical Wolf Spider as adults, while others can be as large as a dinner plate! They are not all black, either; tarantulas come in a rainbow of colors, ranging from muted browns and blacks to brilliant shades of orange, red, yellow, metallic blue, green or purple, as well as many combinations of colors and patterns. Whatever colors you favor, there's a tarantula with that color! I've got several photos of my own tarantulas in my Deviant Art photo gallery, which show many colors and varying degrees of hairiness.

Tarantulas are large spiders, usually from tropical regions. Most have hairs and that makes them look fuzzy, some have beautiful markings. like red knees or pink trim on a brown body. The Spanish dance Tarantella is supposedly based on the way these guys move. I like spiders.
