There is nothing wrong with me...It just is heavy. I guess I could have phrased that better...It is a lot heavier than my Mom and Sister say theirs are.

I have found that ONLY super tampons work...and I use always super pads all the time.....I think I will leak if I dont wear a tampon to bed.. Everytime I didnt wear one I leaked.

There is nothing else you can do if you can't face your fear of TSS then you are out of luck. there are nothing else but tampons and pads. you could try using a tampon and a pad. you need to face you fear. I have a VERY heavy period too and I use tampons in the day and pads when I'm asleep and it works just fine. What size pads are you using wen you sleep. Use the thick long 'Always' ones. DAMN face it that's all you can do get over it. I'm not mean I'm honest in case you think I'm mean. By the way it helps if you are on birth control because I've been on it for a while it it really regulates you.

When Toxic Shock Syndrome was first discovered part of the problem was the material some tampons were made of.

Women are now told to try to use tampons only on their heaviest days, to change them frequently, and to use the lowest absorbency they can (and don't use "super" at all).

One concern with young girls using tampons has been the concern that some (certainly not all) young girls are not careful enough about excellent hygiene, which can contribute to infection. It is said that the tampon string can act as a bridge for bacteria, so being super, super, clean in that area is very important. Use water on the tissue to clean and watch where the string is.

Girls/women are told not to leave tampons in overnight and to instead use pads.

Generally, people are told to only use tampons on the heaviest days (which can't be more than, what, three?), don't leave them in overnight (or at least make sure to use a new one at night and use a new one when you wake up) and use pads or liners for the other days. If you do that, as well as following the recommendations of being extremely clean and not using super absorbent that's pretty much what women have been told since TSS was first discovered.

Ok well I always worry too about TSS.. so I have learned to trade off...my regimen {btw, first two days are horrible!!} I wear one to work, change it 2 x's while there, whether I need to or not, then I come home and put on a pad, then I put in a tampon and wear a pad the first day {have to} then the next day I wear a tampon to work, change it once and then again when I get home. Then I wear just a pad to bed.

I believe if you just pick and choose your battle you will be alright. It is when they are misused they become a problem, leaving it in all day...or wearing just them all the time.

I hope this helps you!

My periods were always unreasonably heavy and lasted 8 - 15 days at a time...I used both Super Tampax AND pads in combination for years...TSS will not be a problem for you unless you leave your tampon in for a long time (6-8 hours), and it sounds like you would soak through in that time anyways...

You should investigate with a OB-GYN though...heavy periods could indicate fibroids, endometriosis (I was diagnosed with endo at the age of 30, after having my superlong periods since I was 11, and ended up having a hysterectomy because of the severity) or other problematic health issues...family history is important too, so ask your female relatives about their histories...good luck!

TSS is rare and as long as you don't leave a tampon in for more than 6 hours then it should be fine. Also, buy a box of tampons that has a couple different absorbancies--tampax has one box that has Jr., Regular, and Super in the same box. Figure out which works best for your cycle. Also, I really like the Overnite pads for night time.

Ok, i have a flow like that i am 13, relax. tampons can be left in for oh... 6 hours, so change before. bed. i know you want adult input, but i was just curious. anyway, i once left a tampon in for 7 hours, i am alive! there are these wipes that work nicley they are made by always and they make a good cleanup. put a pad on AND a tampon. or make 2 pads, put 1 ontop of the other.

TSS isnt as common as most people think. The only way you can get TSS is if you leave a tampon in for more that 24 hours. Everyone thinks its 10 hours thats wrong its 24 hours. Usually it happens to women who are very light and forget that they even have one in. Which I find odd cause how can you forget that you left something in there. lol

When i first got my period it was very heavy and i just used super tampons, and even used one at night, just have to make sure u change them often, TSS isnt THAT common, just keep urself clean and dont forget to change ur tampon...you can also talk to a doctor about medications andthings like that, i went on the pill because my period was irregular and real heavy and it helped ALOT.

Just make sure you change the tampon before you to bed and as soon as you wake up. dont worry it is so rare just be clean. you have more of a chance of dying in a car accident than from tss.
