Well. Queer is one of those words whos meaning changes with the intent of the speaker. If you are a small minded bigot it means one thing, if you are a politically self identified radical gay person it means another.
Honestly I'm a bit fed up with both groups. On the one hand its easy to hate the bigots and on the other all the political chest thumping is a bit tiresome.
Its basically a silly debate and folks are gonna say what they're gonna say. But I will pop you in the nose if you call me a queer for the wrong reasons...so just be warned.

Depends on the situation. If somebody calls a homosexual, say, a "flaming queer," it's an insult. However, some GLBT people (including myself) feel that the labels of gay/lesbian or bisexual do not apply to them, because they don't quite fit any of those categories. Therefore, they may identify as queer. This isn't a single-person phenomenon; Broadway actor Anthony Rapp identifies as queer, among other people.

Its a derogatory term used to refer to someone's sexual preference by an ignorant bigot.
It's not something to worry about. Ignore the bigots, or fight back effectively, whichever is easiest for you -- and remember that you are wonderful, just as you are.
