I bought an HP Pavilion laptop last August. It is a DV6040us.

In the last couple of weeks I noticed that when I returned to my computer after being away from it for more than 20 minutes that if I touched the keyboard, the monitor wouldn't come back on like it normally did.

The screen would just stay black. So I would have to turn it off and then turn it on again.

Yesterday, I went to turn on the computer after it had been off all night. It wouldn't even turn on when I hit the power button. The lights came on across the top of the keyboard and I could hear the CD-ROM whirring, but that was it.

I have a Virus Scan.

I can't think of why my computer had these problems this past couple of weeks resulting in yesterday's awfulness.

Any help?? Thanks!!

You said you bought it last August, then it is still under the manufacturer's warranty, talk to HP about it. It could be settings for hibernation, or something is jacked with it coming out of hibernation mode. In any case, since it is less than a year, the support and repair if needed should be free.

You could disable the hibernating so the monitor wont do that. That's what I do, then when I go to sleep or walk away from the pc for a while I just shut the monitor off. That should be in the power management settings in the control panel. Set it so that nothing turns off automatically.
