Hi – I am an established seller on eBay. eBay has been my full time job for 4 years, and I have sold over 12,000 items.

I am assuming you are referring to getting bids on items you are selling? There are several things you need to remember:

1) A good, clean, clear photo is essential. If your buyer can't see the item, he won't buy it. Posting multiple photos from different views is a good idea. Make sure the item looks nice in the photo - it is clean, you use good lighting, and if it is clothing, make sure it is ironed!

2) Make sure your item is listed in the correct category. For example, I offer a store critique service. I see alot of buyers who don't list the item in the right category - like someone was selling a Disney children's computer game and had it listed in EVERYTHING ELSE/EDUCATION/ADULT. Potential customers won't see it in that category.

3) Use correct key words. You only get 55 characters for your title, use them wisely. Don't waste those characters with junk like WOW< L@@K or AWESOME. Use descriptive adjectives like color, size, style, etc.

4) Have a fair return policy. You may never have to use it, but it empowers your customers and gives them options. If the item is returned, you can always list it again. (I sell 300 items a month and only about 5 are ever returned.) Avoid return policies like, "ALL SALES FINAL. RETURNS NOT ACCEPTED." Those types of statements turn buyers off.

5) Answer questions promptly and politely.

6) Treat customers the way you would like to be treated as a customer.

Please email me directly and I can share more information with you.

Regards-

If you are bidding, but cant be at the computer when the auction ends, all you can do is put the absolute maximum you would pay and hope you win for less. Otherwise dont bid on it, if you know you will be at the computer until the auction ends. Then place a bid with a minute or so to go. Make sure to always refresh your browser (press F5), because you will likely not be the only one doing this..

I agree with the previous answer,
Wait until the final few moments of the auction before you bid. Never do it the first day of the auction. It shows your hand and others who want the item know what your willing to spend.

Watch the item you want and do not bid until two min before the auction ends to keep the price low.

I think the best thing you can do is include a photo of the actual item for sale.
Be as honest as possible and price postage realistically.
Try and add a bit of humour into your description...make the potential bidders interested.

I recently sold a car stereo for £94 that I bought from ebay 4 yrs ago for £100...
I thought that was a fantastic bit of selling....and it cost me £6 for 4yrs of use.
