my little sister who is 6 years old just got her hair cut today. It is really cute and she doesn't like her hair long at all she says it herts her and when we brush her hair not to mention that she throws a fit whenever we do brush her hair, and she doesn't like the sweat that is underneath her hair when she is hot. So my mom took her to get her hair cut now the problem is is that her dad is verbally abusive and wants to keep my sisters hair long and like I said she doesn't want her hair long!!! Now my mom wants to know how to tell him why she did what she did. He doesn't do anything with her hair anyways so what do we tell him??? And will he understand what we tell him or why she wanted her hair cut!!!

u tell him why u did wht u did and period. If he starts ranting, then u have 2 choices: rant back or walk away. It's no use to rant back to a ranter anyway, so walk away and save ur time and energy.

Sounds like her dad hasn't actually seen her with the cute short hair yet, so you may be expecting trouble for nothing...he MIGHT like it.

Now that it's cut, there's not much he can do about it, so he has to accept reality.

If he is usually a bully, then maybe between you all you can find a way to say that isn't acceptable. I know that is hard, my dad was a bully too, and it wasn't nice.

But he is allowed his point of view too, isn't he? Some men think long hair for girls is romantic - they really like it. But then they don't have to wear it and take care of it themselves.

He really has to accept that this is her life, her hair, her choice, and her style. I would say don't be too apologetic, it might only make things worse.

I hope she really enjoys her new hairstyle and if she thinks she made a mistake, it can always grow again.

Good luck.

Tell her Dad she is a person ,she has a mind of her own as far as the type of haircut she likes,I think if she likes her hair short and your mom took her to get it cut ,that should not be a problem!! she is 6 years old short hair is easier to take care of.!!!!! Good Luck!!

Just tell him that its her hair and if she wants it cut then thats what going to happen.Just explain to him that its uncomfortable for her when she sweats and its just too much to deal with. And its not like hes gonna stay mad forever. My stepdad is like that and ive learned when your calm and you act mature about it then hell act the same just if he starts to yell then just walk away and say if youd like to talk about this without yelling ill be in my room and trust me once he calms down and lets his anger out it will all pass over and your sisters hair WILL grow back just right now she wants it short. Hope this helps :)

My dad used to be like that. He insisted that my mom and I both keep our hair long. It's not up to you to deal with this. You're a kid. Your mom needs to tell him that his actions are hurting his family, and that her hair length is not going to negatively affect her future but that his behaviour will.

Children are only able to feel safe and secure if given a safe and secure environment. You girls won't be able to flourish into happy and healthy women if you've grown up feeling like you have to walk on egg shells because of someone's tantrums. Good luck to you and to your mother who needs to deal with this.

He wont understand, probably ever.
He who changes their mind against their will is of the same opinion still.
Doesn't really matter what you tell him. Tell him to cut his hair the way he likes and the rest of us will cut their hair the way they like.
You could always find someone who is physically abusive and beat the crap out of him. Not that I condone that sort of thing.....much.

it`s just hair, it will grow back. your sis likes it this way. he will get used to it and calm down. don`t lose your temper with him. tell him how you feel in a calm, nice way.

tell him all the reasons you just told us and if he still being mean tell him he's being unreasonable (apparently someone has to tell him that sooner or later or he will never realize it on his own).
