by "how do they do it" im assuming your ear piercings were done somewhere in a mall, not a professional piercer.
they take the skin, after they have marked it, and pinch it in tongs. then they tell you to breathe in and let it out, and they put the needle through it. the pain is minimal and lasts about 5 seconds MAX.
you get such a rush that pain really is minimal. i like to go in thinking it's going to hurt very badly, then you are pleasantly surprised when it does not.
just make sure you get it at a reputable place, and make sure all the instruments used are removed from the packaging in front of you.

I have my tounge pierced and it was one of the most interesting experiences ever. It doesn't really hurt when you get it done, but days 2 and 3 are the WORST!!! Eating on the first night... Well, let me just say that it took me a half hour to eat two pieces of pizza (small little square size)! After that for about the next 3 days, I was on a liquid diet. It's not bad and it's worth it in the long run (it's not as permanent as tattoos)
The care for them is just about the same as your ear piercings... Just keep them clean and use bactine or some other disinfectant on it. As for tongues, just use half listerine and half water 3-5 times a day for the first week to 10 days. Good luck!

In addition to my ears I have had my eyebrow, tongue and nipples pierced. I thought the tongue hurt but the worst part was the swelling the next few days and not being able to eat or talk correctly. I think the nipples hurt most of all though. The pain of getting it done and then the soreness after wards was terrible for me. But everything is fine now. I think any piercing is going to hurt a little but pain goes away!

Nose piercings hurt but not enough to deter many people including myself. The needle commonly used is a 18 or 20 gauge so it isn't too bad. However, I follow the "less is more" approach to jewelry so I might think twice before putting a sixth piercing in your head. Good luck!

I've had my nipples done... if anyone tells you they don’t hurt... THEY lie!! I had them in for about a year, they never really did heal properly so I took them out. Just a little heads up about piercing your genitalia ... I have many friends who have done this... it's great at first... but after time you lose sensitivity at the site of the piercing... not a good thing. Good luck with whatever you decide...

I have my bellybutton pierced. It did not hurt much at all. Just sort of stung for a minute. You need to go to a tattoo parlor to get them done right.

I wish this piercing craze would just be over! *lol* I have nine piercings, but I only wear one pair of earrings now. I recommend not getting anything pierced. But that's just me *Boo me all you want! :) *
