Well, I am going to take you off into another direction here ... yes, I assume you are dealing with The Great Gatsby and seeing some of the huge no-invitation parties that Jay Gatsby is throwing to attract Daisy one day, but one must remember, this is NOT the parties of the high society during the 1920s, This is a party of the neuvo riche, those who gained wealth during the 1920s especially through illegal alcohol as Gatsby is suggested as having done.

The real high society are the DuPont's and Rockefeller's and Carnegie's and Vanderbilt's. These people would never ever be caught at one of Gatsby's parties. Gatsby and Tom Buchanan was way too low class for the true high society.

At one of their parties it would be softer music, good food and wine, men smoking cigars after wards and talking about business and stocks and wealth, while the women adjourned to another room to discuss fashion and family. They both might also speak of where they live and where they intend to vacation.

No one talks much about this because Gatsby is perceived as having so much wealth, but it is new wealth and doesn't have the significance of old wealth.
