Does anyone else agree with me that Gary Bettman is retarded? Hockey is never going to catch on in the states. The 6 Canadian teams make up for 1/3 of the NHL's revenue so why not focus on the Canadian market? Im not saying Gary Bettman chooses to do this but i think they need to change their plan.

Well, Bettman is concerned with making money. That is why he and owners are in the states, if they don't make money they can't afford players and they stink and no one comes to see them and they fold or move to Colorado.
Bettman isn't dumb, he is just not a Hockey person. They made a few good rules but the fighting crackdown has hurt the league. So you punish people for fighting and no one drops the gloves. So since that time the stick infractions have sky rocketed. So people are more injured and the fans don't get to see a good one on one anymore. It is a matter of time before the full masks are imposed and goal crease will be just this side of the blue line

Gary Bettman is not retarded, he just doesn't know Hockey very well and has alienated traditional fans trying to change the sport, which MIGHT have been defensible IF he had brought a lot of new fans in as well, but that has not happened.
The best "plan" as many others before me have mentioned may be to STOP doing things. Hockey is the greatest game on the Earth and it needs better marketing and exposure for what it ALREADY is, not tinkering with shootouts, 3 point games and glowing pucks.
And I think you (and others) should lighten up a bit on this scapegoat and focus on who is REALLY ruining the game: the owners (who will continue to keep Bettman because he is doing exactly what THEY want). Here is a group of people that paid OUTRAGEOUS sums of money OF THEIR OWN FREE WILL to players who didn't even belong in the NHL, then they whine and say they are losing money. Nobody put a gun to their head.
Bettman is much like a "King" in a "Democracy", a figurehead with no real power.

Bettman may have known what he was doing in the NBA, his marketing schemes have some merits, but for the most part he has failed at his job. Changing rules in the middle of a season was bad enough, the loss of an entire season almost turned me off completely to hockey.

Never going to catch on in the states? Have you ever been to Michigan? What about Buffalo, New York? Don't tell us hockey is never going to catch on in the states when people eat, sleep and breathe it every day. Now, hockey in the south is pretty dumb (as evidenced by the Carolina Hurricanes and their "Redneck Hockey" slogan) and yes, Buttman (not a mis-type) is an idiot, but leave those of us in America who live for the next NHL game with our teams!

Canada might have 1/3rd of the NHL's revenue but how many empty beer cans is that? If you discount the Canadien currency like the rest of the world does, that 1/3 is a 'you owe me a bundle' so shaddap and go kiss a moose.
