Hi Erich,

I prefer Clone DVD. It will shrink the movie just as much as necessary to fit a DVD. If shrinking isn't necessary it will not shrink the file. That way quality isn't compromised.

Go here to read about & try it - http://www.slysoft.com/en/

You might also check out AnyDVD at the same site. It will remove any copyguard so you can backup your purchased DVDs.

If keeping the movie in DVD format is essential, then I suggest DVD shrink or Nero Recode. If you don't need it to stay in dvd format, I would strongly suggest encoding the movie to Xvid or Divx format. This will allow you to retain good video quality while keeping the file size low. For ripping and encoding utilities, I suggest this site: http://www.dvduk.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ the site has several utilities that are useful for such projects.

Why would you want to shrink them, just simply make duplicate copies of the movies onto other DVD's and then store them safely, shrinking them makes them poor quality, so if something happens to the original one then you will likely not see the backup worthy of watching...

DVD R's with 4.7GB capacities are extremely cheap... Unless of course you buy from a computer shop, they're usually massively inflated prices, buy off the internet and the prices halve.
