how many points do the flames have to be up until they have clinched a playoff spot?

Ok, the Calgary Flames have 92 points with 6 games remaining. The Colorado Avalanche have 85 points with 6 games remaining. This means that the Avs and the Flames both have the potential to add as many as 12 more points to their current totals, which would give the Flames 104 points, while the Avs would finish with 97. Basically, how it will turn out is if two things happen: 1. The Calgary Flames win 3 more games, thus getting to 98 points, which would be one more point than what Colorado can get to, or 2. The Avs lose enough games to put them in a situation where they can no longer catch Calgary at their current 92 points, which would mean that any combination now of 3 wins by Calgary or 3 regulation losses by Colorado will knock Colorado out of the playoff picture and give Calgary the #8 spot. Any Calgary victory will put the pressure on Colorado to try and keep pace at this point, but it will be extremely tough going down the stretch for Colorado to catch them. They basically have to hope for a steal of all 4 points against Calgary coming up in the 2 games that they play against each other. This thing could be over very, very shortly, with Calgary needing only to win their next three games (Minnesota on Thursday, Vancouver on Saturday and Colorado on Tuesday) to clinch a playoff spot. Should be interesting, but not as interesting as out East, where it could come down to the final day of the season to determine who gets in there.

the Flames need 3 wins to clinch the final playoffs spot but that's only if the Av's win there next 6 games cause that would give the Av's 97 points which the Flames would have 98 points in their final 6 games. both have six games remanding.
and if the Flames where to lose all six games then the Av's would only need to win 4 games to advance. i just don't think the Av's have it and for 6 wins and the Flames only need 3 wins to clinch that final spot.
